VITL and its stakeholders have collaborated to launch ePrescribe Vermont, a statewide initiative to help Vermont physicians and other prescribers adopt and use electronic prescribing technology. The short video below describes how Vermont physicians and their patients are benefitting from eprescribing.
ePrescribe Vermont is offering Vermont health care providers free use of a web-based electronic prescribing application, powered by Allscripts. Click here for an online demonstration. Email and telephone support and onsite training are free as well. The application is accessible via the Apple iPhone and other web-enabled smartphones.
It provides instant access to medication history and formulary data, and also performs drug interaction checks. There is no software to install or download, and the system can be accessed from any location at any time. All that is needed is a computer or smartphone, Internet access, and a secure web browser. Assistance for EMR and Pharmacy System Users In addition to the above freestanding application, ePrescribe Vermont is providing financial assistance to physician practices and independently-owned pharmacies that would like to add electronic prescribing to their existing EMR or pharmacy systems. Please email info@eprescribevt.org for more details.
Get Paid Extra for ePrescribing
A major goal of ePrescribe Vermont is to help Vermont physicians qualify for a 2 percent electronic prescribing incentive payment from the Medicare program. Click here for more information on the Medicare bonus program.
How ePrescribe Vermont is Funded ePrescribe Vermont is funded by a $1 million federal grant secured by U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy. The grant is being administered by VITL. “Sending prescriptions to pharmacies electronically is an important advance in patient safety,” said Sen. Leahy. “Physicians using electronic prescribing technology are alerted to potential allergies and drug interactions. When the electronic prescription is received at the pharmacy, pharmacists no longer have to decipher physician handwriting. There is much less chance of errors being made.”
“Electronic prescribing improves patient care, as prescribers have instant access to the patient’s medication history and allergy list no matter where they are,” said David Cochran, M.D., VITL’s president and CEO. “It is also a convenience that physicians can offer their patients, as the patient no longer has to carry a paper prescription to the pharmacy and prescriptions sent electronically are often ready when the patient arrives.”
