Director of Sales

Job Description: 

Vermont Information Technology Leaders (VITL) is seeking a director of sales to drive sales of new healthcare IT product and service offerings. The Director of Sales is primarily responsible for selling VITL’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) / Health Information Technology (HIT) solutions to health care organizations including hospitals, academic medical centers, hospital and independent practices, and other health care entities such as public and private HIEs. The Director of Sales is responsible to meet and exceed an assigned quota. This role reports directly to the Vice President of Sales, requires some travel, and is located in Burlington, Vermont.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop forecasts to achieve the sales objectives in the strategic sales plan.
  • Gain understanding of the competitive landscape to shape sales strategies.
  • Develop and recommend product / service positioning and pricing strategies.
  • Manage territory independently and leverage VITL’s current client base to develop a pipeline of qualified prospects to engage in a consultative sales process.
  • Assess an individual organization’s needs, once lead is obtained, and demonstrate the value of VITL’s offering and how it meets or exceeds the organization’s business needs.
  • Management of the full consultative sales process including corporate presentations, staffing analysis and data gathering meetings, demonstrations, ROI presentations, and comprehensive proposal delivery based on assessed business needs.
  • Effectively negotiate all deals and transition new accounts to VITL’s client services team.


  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications (MBA preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience successfully meeting sales targets, health care IT experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong prospecting skills and excellent closing skills.
  • Strong sales administration skills, timely and accurate reporting.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of CRM systems, preferably Salesforce.
  • Knowledge of online meeting and presentation tools.
